Besides The Cost, There Are Many Benefits Of Hiring Movers
It is most probably cheaper to arrange and do the move yourself, but there are many benefits of hiring movers. The constant worry of renting a suitable vehicle or packing up of all your household goods will be diminished by using a specialized removal service.
Most movers have several benefits for hiring them, with diverse services. There are some who would supply all the packing materials and cartons and will also pack everything for you, then clean up for you in the process. Others may only just arrive and load your household into the van and transport it to your new home.
There are even companies who offer a comprehensive package which includes finding you a new home according to your financial situation, and then pack up and move all your belongings for you. Obviously this would cost a bit more than the average move but if you can afford to allow a team of professionals to do the move for you, then its worth the cost. They will move your goods out and put them where you want them in your new home, as well as unpack and place everything where they belong.
You need to make sure the company you hire is reputable and you should do a little background check, trying to get references in the process. Make sure that their prices are within the accepted market value and that there are no hidden costs involved. Its also important to make sure your valuables are insured during the move.
Having the time to do what you would normally do, without the stress of packing or looking for a new home, is certainly a huge benefit when you have to move. If you have time to plan ahead of your next move, you may want to consider setting aside some money each month for your next move. Imagine, all you have to do is make a phone call and the movers will take over and do all the hard work for you.
You might need to book a furniture removal company well in advance, or you might land up using a less desirable company at the last moment. In this way the business will also have time to come and assess all your assets for insurance purposes and special packing instructions.
See what you don’t want anymore, discard them or have a sale and make a few bucks to go toward the move. In the end you will have less that needs to be moved and it will save some money. Use a practical approach to deciding what you want to keep or get rid of.
You wont need to worry about the van needed for the move as proficient movers will make all the necessary arrangements for you. Undue delays because of poor weather or any other sudden changes in the plan will be catered for by professional firms. With everything left to the specialists, you can concentrate on your most prized possessions and make your own arrangements for them.
Most of the companies are run in a profession manner; just make sure you have some form of redress if there are any damages or losses. There are a lot of benefits of hiring movers in Toronto; probably the best benefit is that you have the time and freedom to carry on your life as normally as possible.
As one of the leading storage in Toronto they provide experienced movers Toronto and even moving companies Toronto to help make your moving experience as hitch-free as possible.
Three Weeks from Now You’ll Be in Your New Home
Now that there are only three weeks to go before moving day, you’ll find that the pace is really starting to accelerate.
If any rooms need painting, it’s a good idea to try to do so in the next few days, so they’ll be ready, and order any packing supplies you think you’ll need. Ordering as far in advance as possible is important so you’ll have the supplies on hand when you need them.
If you have children, start checking out schools in your new neighborhood. Prepare a list of questions to take with you to each school. Find out whether the schools provide transportation, if public transportation is available, or if you’ll be responsible for getting the kids to and from school.
Now is also the time when you’ll want to go through the estimates you’ve been collecting from moving companies and van rental agencies. Once you have them narrowed down to the best candidates, you can book appointments to have them come out and give a final estimate based on the actual contents of your home.
Having the utilities transferred out of your name on the right date is very important-too soon and you’ll be working in the dark, too late and you’ll be paying for services you don’t need. You want to ensure that the utilities in your new home are started in your name on the right day as well.
Internet service providers often require more notice than other companies in similar industries. Types of services provided can vary widely from location to location, and the equipment needed may differ too. You may not end up with the same service you’re used to if you don’t plan far enough ahead.
There’s no rest for the weary once the moving day countdown drops below the four-week mark!

Lets Talk Moving Company Costs Per Pound

Moving: How many pounds should a 4 bdrm home weigh – includes fridge, washer & dryer?
What is the average cost per pound that a professional moving company charges?

Michael asks…
Movers broke priceless artwork, how much should we claim?
My husband and I moved from MD to TX at the request of the company he works for. They provided a moving company that packed, moved and unloaded our household goods. When the company came out to do our estimate we listed 1 item of high value (more than $10 per pound). We weren’t concerned with our TV or other electronics, we weren’t concerned with anything else in the house except this one item. We purchased it on our 1 year anniversary in Mexico. It was a high quality ceramic, made in our image to look like my husband’s face and his hand holding my face. We’ve never seen anything like it, it was made FOR us and cost us just over $900.
Anyway, we listed this item on the high value list and it was packed in it’s own box and marked fragile. We’ve moved with this item before, a year ago, and it wasn’t broken at that time so we know it is possible to pack it correctly. However, this time it wasn’t and when I opened the box I found our priceless ceramic shattered!
So do I ask the $900? Or do I ask more? If we took another trip to Mexico, managed to find the same person to make another for us, the trip alone would cost $1000. The claim sheet asks what the cost of replacement is.
What would you put? We are devastated. Not sure if we’ll be able to get another or ever replace it with anything with as much sentimental value. We don’t want to rip the company off either, but we do think they should be held accountable.
WWYD?

Dennis Carter answers:
Unfortunately, there is not a good chance of recouping your loss unless the item itself was specifically insured through an outside insurance (not through your movers). You need to look through the fine print of your moving contract to see the specific rules which apply here. Generally, there is a cap off on damages that they will pay you for. Otherwise, there can be conditions where you need to provide proof for the cost of the damage. This would be your original receipt for the piece and a written appraisal for the current cost (if the piece were to be currently sold) from the artist or an art dealer. Essentially, if you don’t have to prove costs, claim as much as possible. This is probably not the case, though. Even if you get proof of value, the movers (or your husband’s company) may not be required under the contract that you signed to pay you back the full amount of your claim. You will certainly not be granted air fare and there is no recoup for sentimental value. The price of the item were it to sell on the open market would be determined by its value to others, not you. Anyway, look back though the contracts and see what is even possible. Sorry!!

William asks…
Husband is being offered a transfer to the UK; how much will our taxes be?
My husband is being offered a transfer to a UK branch of his company in Frimley. We currently live in California. They want to cut his salary about 35% for cost of living adjustment if we move there, down to 48,000 pounds per year. I read the income tax rate for that amount is 40%. Is that correct? What sort of exemptions do you get there for having a family (wife, child) and for charitable giving (e.g. tithing to church)?
I’m trying to figure out if it is doable, considering we have $3,300 in condo and hoa payments every month (renting it out minus taxes would pay for our rent in UK, plus a little extra), not to mention cars. At this point, it looks like we would have to cash out his retirement, sell our cars and do a short sale on our condo (well underwater, even though our area is in good condition because two units in the building short sold in the last year). Since we can only stay in the UK for a max of 3-5 years, it seems stupid to torpedo our whole life to go there. We’d really love to do it, as it would be a great experience for our family, and he would have more job security at that office, but I’m thinking it is just too much.

Dennis Carter answers:
£48,000 does indeed fall into the 40% tax band, but only a very small amount of his salary will actually be taxed at that rate. The first £6,475 fall into the tax-free allowance, and then the next £37,400 – ie up to £43,875 – are taxed at just 20%. So it’s just the last £4,125 that are taxed at 40%.
There are various child tax credits and allowances, but they’re very complicated and depend on a whole host of things. As far as charitable giving is concerned you are only entitled to offset the amount you get against tax, although it will be at the higher rate for the full amount.
